Our Heritage Visitor Centre Plans

3 years ago Mon 6th Sep 2021

Our Heritage Tram Tours are as much a part of Blackpool’s history as the Tower and Fish and Chips.

Behind the scenes, there’s a lot going on to keep our Tram Tours running for future generations and our long-term aim is to transform the current tram sheds in to a Heritage Visitor Centre, allowing residents and visitors alike to share our history. The current tram sheds form an important part of our operation, allowing us to store over 20 operational trams and many more from times gone by.

To realise this dream, we need vital funds to repair the roof and begin work to transform the area. As you may remember, we launched a fundraiser in June asking our supporters to help us raise the money to repair the shed roof and we want to thank all of our friends, colleagues, and customers for their support so far.

Guide Depot Tours

Plans are afoot to begin to offer guided walking tours of our depot area so that we can tell you our story and share our plans for the future. The first tour will take place on 25th September as part of our Heritage Tram Anniversary weekend, with more guided tours to follow each week thereafter.

Alongside the fundraiser, we are working on obtaining some grant funding and engaging with our friends and the wider community across the Fylde Coast, to ask for their help and involvement in this exciting project.

Why are we doing this?

This work is all intended to protect the future of our Heritage Tram Tours so that we can keep them running future generations. Our iconic and world-famous trams to offer an important Heritage, Cultural and Educational offering for both residents and visitors to Blackpool.

Community Clean Up Events

We recently held a volunteer clean up event on 24th August with over 20 volunteers including Cllr Paul Galley, Blackpool Transport Chair, volunteers from Blackpool FC Community Trust, and many more. The team tackled everything from weeding to painting and rubbish disposal. The cheerful painting is set to continue as we carry on our efforts to brighten up the area. Thank you to all who gave up their time to kickstart our make over!

Another community clean up event is taking place on Thursday 9th September between 10am – 4pm at our Rigby Road depot. If you’d like to get involved as we use our present to protect the important past, get in touch with [email protected] with your contact details and our team will be in touch with more information.
