At Blackpool Transport, we invest heavily in the development and careers of young people locally and love to celebrate their achievements!

We currently employ 6 staff in apprenticeship roles in areas including Engineering, Human Resources and Marketing.

Employing over 600 staff on the Fylde Coast, the opportunities offered to young people by introducing a range of apprenticeship opportunities is providing full-time roles with learning and development opportunities for future progression.

Most recently, Chris, an Engineering Apprentice at the tram operators Starr Gate depot completed his apprenticeship and is now a full time, employed member of the team. His colleague Jake is also on course to complete his apprenticeship and was recently presented with a BTEC Level 3 Engineering Award.

Alongside their academic learning, both Chris and Jake are involved in much of the day-to-day maintenance of Blackpool’s famous trams, with tasks ranging from routine inspections to replacing tyres, as well as playing their part in larger maintenance projects.

It isn’t only in the tram sheds where you will find full time working apprentices at Blackpool Transport. The company also employ two Engineering apprentices working and developing skills in their bus depot at Rigby Road and also two office-based apprentices working in their Marketing and Human Resources teams.

Investing in young, local talent is crucial to the sustainability of our business and the local communities which we serve. We’re proud of each of our apprentices who are on track to become permanent employees. In addition, over 30 of our colleagues are in the process of completing Level 3 & Level 5 leadership qualifications at Blackpool & The Fylde College to enrich their skillsets and support succession and continuous business improvement with us.

National Apprenticeship Week runs from 8th – 14th February, with a theme of ‘Build the Future’.  You can take a look at the benefits that Apprenticeships provide young people with and get involved here.
