Beat the Fare Cap and Everything You Need to Know for 2025
1 month ago
As we approach 2025, we want to share some important updates about the fare cap and what they mean for your travel with us. Starting January 1st, the government’s fare cap will increase from £2 to £3 for single bus journeys across England. Prior to the fare cap, we had introduced simple value zonal fares. From 1 January, these fares will be reintroduced following the end of the £2 fare cap.
For those travelling within one zone only, a single bus fare will be £2.70. However, if you’re travelling across both zones, the government’s £3 single fare cap will apply. As we're reintroducing zones, you'll need to 'Tap Off' when you exit the bus to ensure you're paying the correct fare. So, when travelling in a single zone, don't forget to 'Tap Off' so that you're not charged the full £3 fare. Please note, children’s fares will be staying the same.
The Central (Blue) zone will stretch from Squires Gate to Thornton Gate, Four Lane Ends and Poulton, and the outwards (Green) zone will cover the rest of the network. You can check out the map here as a pdf file and here as a picture file. We've also added some handy FAQs here.
Saver Tickets: The best value for you!
While the fare cap and zonal fares are changing, our Saver Tickets remain the best value for regular customers, with prices frozen for 2025. A Day ticket is just £6.60 for unlimited travel throughout the day on both buses and trams. Our 3-, 7-, and 30-day passes reduce the daily travel cost to as low as £2.60 per day. By keeping these fares the same, we’re ensuring that frequent customers can continue to enjoy affordable and convenient travel.
Great Value Options for Hybrid Workers
If you only work in the office twice a week or have a flexible schedule, our new Beat the Fare Cap Bundles are made just for you. Designed with hybrid workers and infrequent travellers in mind, these bundles let you enjoy affordable travel without the commitment of weekly or monthly passes.

Valid across both buses and trams, they’re perfect for those who want to save while keeping their travel options flexible. Changes to Tap, Cap and Go!
Tap, Cap and Go makes travelling on our buses and trams simple—just tap on and off with your card, and your fare will automatically be capped at the price of a day ticket. You can choose to tap and cap on either our buses or our trams, but the two cannot be combined, meaning they won’t count towards the same daily cap. Remember, it’s now more important than ever to tap off when travelling within a single zone to avoid being charged the full £3 single fare.
Tangerine Ticket and Fleetwood Flyer tickets
From 2nd January, we’ll also be saying goodbye to the Tangerine Ticket and Fleetwood Flyer. The tickets will be available on New Year's day but following this, the promotion will end. For the best value tickets, check our app for the best options.
