Blackpool Transport shines a light on its Illuminations plans
Today

Blackpool residents and visitors are being urged to plan ahead when travelling around the town ahead of the big Illuminations switch-on (Friday September 4).
They’ll also need to allow extra time for their journey as we announce numerous bus diversions during one of the busiest times of the year.
Jamie Swift, the operator’s Head of Commercial explained: “Building on the success of changes to our illuminations planning last year, we will again be focussing on helping visitors make the most of the world-famous spectacle while minimising travel disruption for residents on the Fylde coast.”
With tens of thousands of people expected to flock to the seafront to see multi-talented comedian, presenter and actor Paddy McGuinness help switch on the lights, extra steps are being taken to accommodate the expected crowds .
Buses will be diverted from 11.30 am but will continue to serve their normal stops on Clifton Street, Abingdon Street, Market Street and Corporation Street until just before 6.30 pm. Meanwhile, trams will operate a split service from 11:30 am, with services running between North Station and Fleetwood and Manchester Square and Starr Gate.
“Following the switch-on, diversions will be in place every Friday and Saturday night from 6.30 pm, and additional diversions may be put in place at particularly busy times, so it is always worth checking our website or social media channels for the latest travel information,” Jamie said.
“When this happens, some town centre bus stops may also change, but there will be plenty of signage around to help customers find where to catch their bus,” he added.
