Christian named Blackpool’s bus driver of the year

A talented and dedicated member of our team is set to represent the town in a prestigious national contest after being crowned our Bus Driver of the Year.

Christian Williams fought off stiff competition from colleagues during a day of intense competition in a contest designed to test their knowledge and skills.

Organised by the bus operator’s training team, the competition featured ten drivers who were asked to take a theory test before tackling a special driving course in Lower Walkway, Blackpool, that replicated the daily challenges they face.

With tight turns, bus stops and wheelchair ramp exercises, the course tested precision, skill and consistency, with each driver aiming to achieve the highest possible score across two runs.

Keith Basson, Training Manager and Driving Assessor at Blackpool Transport, commented: “The day was a fantastic celebration of the professionalism and dedication shown by our driving teams all day, every day.

“Christian, a first-time Bus Driver of the Year competitor, impressed throughout the day to take the title, and congratulations must also go to runner-up Mark Whitehead and Colin Freeman, who finished in third place.”

Lea Harrison, Blackpool Transport’s Managing Director, added: “A huge thank you goes to Keith and his colleagues for organising a fantastic day of competition, and we would like to wish the best of luck to Christian and Mark who will now go on to represent Blackpool at the UK Bus Driver of the Year contest in September.”
