Our bus and tram timetables will change on Sunday 5 November 2017. The changes are mainly due to the time of year as we see our Winter timetables come into effect. Some Services are also changing as a result of roadworks and some changes have been made to further benefit customers.
We’ve summarised what these November service changes will mean to you below. Please take a look and as ever, contact a member of the team if you have any questions or need any help.
There will also be major roadworks carried out in the town centre for most of the winter period. This will mean that most of our buses will have to use alternative stops in the town centre area at various different times. We’ll release more information as soon as we have it, but please keep up to date with any changes to make sure you know where to catch your bus.
As the Illuminations come to an end the trams will return to a 15-minute frequency in the day time, 7 days a week. Fancy something a bit different? Keep an eye out for our special Heritage Winter Weekends where we’ll be running some of our Heritage trams too!
Service 1 will run every 30 minutes in the daytime instead of every 20 minutes. It’ll also stop running a little earlier in the evening, so the last journeys will be around 6pm. Travelling after this time along the promenade? Just catch a tram, they’re every 30 minutes in the evening too.
There won’t be any changes to frequency so Service 2 will continue to run every 30 minutes Monday to Saturday and hourly on a Sunday. However it will only run between Blackpool and Poulton. The Poulton – Cleveleys section of this Service has been very poorly used and will no longer run from 5 November.
There are plenty of other Services to get you from Poulton to Cleveleys but you’ll need to change buses. Get in touch with us if we can help with planning your journey.
We’re keeping the frequency as it is! Every 30 minutes Monday – Saturday and hourly on a Sunday. Don’t forget Service 2c only runs between Blackpool and Poulton on a Sunday and there will be a slight change to the timings on the timetable.
Service 3 will run every 20 minutes Monday to Saturday and hourly on a Sunday. There will be a slight change to the route too. Only 3 journeys will operate via Faraday Way in the morning and afternoon peak, Monday to Friday. During the day and at weekends the route will instead use Briarwood Drive and Kincraig Road. This change is being made as a result of very few people using the bus along Faraday Way.
If you need to get to Faraday Way to collect any post or parcels, you can always get this redelivered to your home or nearby address for free, or a post office of your choice. Alternatively Service 3 will drop you at the end of Briarwood Drive, the closest point to the post office.
Service 4 will run every 20 minutes Monday to Saturday and hourly on a Sunday. No fuss no big changes.
There are no planned changes to this service. It will continue to run every 12 minutes Monday to Saturday and every 30 minutes on Sunday. We’re keeping the extra journey every morning and afternoon to help get pupils to and from St Mary’s Academy.
The frequency on Service 6 will reduce to every 15 minutes during the winter Monday – Saturday and every 30 minutes on Sunday. An extra journey in the morning and afternoon will continue to run to help get pupils to and from Aspire Academy.
Bridges at Squires Gate and Harrowside are going to be closed throughout the winter months so Service 7 will be disrupted and will follow a diverted route. The service will divert via Queensway which means it won’t run along Clifton Drive and some part of Squires Gate Lane.
Due to this diversion the frequency will reduce to every 20 minutes Monday to Saturday and every 30 minutes on Sunday. This will ensure we can keep buses running on time.
We’re keeping Service 9 running every 12 minutes Monday to Saturday and every 30 minutes on a Sunday. We’re also speeding up your journey time too so the bus won’t stop for as long at stops along the route!
Service 11 will divert due to Squires Gate and Harrowside bridges being closed. Service 11 won’t be able to use Squires Gate Lane or much of Lytham Road so get in touch with us if you need any help with planning alternative routes. The 11 will turn left on to the Promenade from Clifton Drive North, right on to Harrow Place, left on to Clifton Drive, on to the Promenade at the Big Blue Hotel, right on to Station Road and left on to Lytham Road where it will resume the normal route.
The only change to this service is that it’ll run every 12 minutes Monday to Saturday and every 20 minutes on a Sunday.
Services 15 and 16 will no longer operate from 5 November. We’ve found that very few customers are using these routes and instead prefer to use services that take a more direct route. We’re adding a couple of new, more direct routes which cover most of the areas where Services 15 and 16 currently run so you should be able to make your journey even quicker!
Service 17 will continue to run every 30 minutes Monday to Saturday and hourly on Sunday. The journey will take a little longer as we expect a lot of traffic to use Queensway as a result of Squires Gate bridge being closed, so we’ve added some extra time into the timetable.
This new Service will cover most of the current 15 and 16 Services but will only run from Blackpool Town Centre to Mereside Tesco and will run via South Shore. This is where most of our customers currently travel to and from on Services 15 and 16. This means you get a more direct bus service. It’ll run every 30 minutes Monday to Friday and hourly on weekends.
Another new Service, the 19 will provide a speedy link between Staining and Blackpool Town Centre via Victoria Hospital every hour. You can also use this bus to get to the Zoo too as it’s just a short walk from the Hospital.
This seasonal bus Service will stop running for the winter but don’t worry, it’ll be back next year!
If you need any help with planning your journey following these changes just get in touch with a member of the team.
Timetables will be available in the Routes & Maps section at least 2 weeks before these changes come in to effect, just make sure you select the correct date to preview the timetable from 5 November.
Alternatively you can collect paper copies of our timetables from our travel shop on Market Street from Friday 27 October.
