At Blackpool Transport we held our annual Bus Driver of the Year competition on Tuesday 6th June.
In what is always a fiercely contested event, our drivers are pitted against each other in a test of skill and the driver with the lowest number of points over the two rounds and best highway code score is deemed the winner.
Overcoming reversing exercises, bus stop manoeuvres, a length test, a platform test, fuel pump alignment exercises and a chicane, the obstacles are designed to test their skill to the fullest.
Mick Costello, Driving Standards Officer at Blackpool Transport said “The day turned out to be a great success with the overall lead changing many times throughout the contest. I would like to thank all the drivers and everybody who helped to put this day together. The course isn’t easy at all and the drivers deserve great credit for taking part”.
Rob Murdoch and Gareth Jackson finished in 1st & 2nd place respectively with Paul Sparkes following closely behind in 3rd place. Congratulations to Paul Hardcastle, Colin Freeman, Paul Forshaw, Steve Gray, Dave Berry, Richard Cadman, Paul Fish and Andy Parfitt who all took part and performed extremely well.
Rob and Gareth will now represent Blackpool Transport at the National Final of the UK Bus Driver of the Year Competition, due to be held in Blackpool on the weekend of the 2nd and 3rd September.
