Why Does My Bus Say It's Full?

3 weeks ago Tue 20th Apr 2021

There might be an occasion where your bus says that it is full and you will need to wait for the next one.

We're doing everything we can to keep you safe when travelling and due to social distancing, we have fewer available seats on board.

We have around 100 buses in our fleet and usually, we would be able to carry up to 74 seated customers on a double-decker bus. With less seats available to encourage social distancing, we're still only able to carry less than half of that.

We recently increased the frequency of our buses and the number of customers now travelling with us is around 70% of normal levels (pre-COVID). This means that we are carrying a larger number of customers with only 50% of our normal space available, leading to some services becoming full and unable to carry more customers, safely.

Our teams are doing everything possible to keep you moving and we are using as many of our buses as we can, especially during busy periods where commuters, school children and college students are travelling

Planning ahead, leaving some extra time for your journey, or using alternative routes where possible helps us to keep you moving. We’re all in this together!

Currently, most of our customers are travelling between 9:30 am and 4:30 pm so services during this time are usually busier than others. Where possible, we would encourage you to travel outside of these times to make sure you can catch your service safely.

We appreciate the frustration of not being able to get on your bus or tram service but these measures are for your safety. Please do not be offended if your driver tells you to wait for the next bus, this is for your, and other customers safety.

We all need to do what we can right now and your help and patience during these times is appreciated.
