6 months ago Tue 7th Dec 2021

December, it's usually the time to wind down and watch 'I'm a Celebrity' with a hot chocolate right?

Wrong! Tis' the season to be out and about as Blackpool town centre and surrounding areas are brimming with things to do, see and take part in.

We have picked out the best family-friendly things you can get up to this Christmas, all accessible by our services (of course) and all on a budget. We know you'll be saving your pennies for bigger things.

Before I get into it, we've got a new festive return ticket you can take advantage of. Travel to Blackpool town and back for just £2.50 when you use our limited mobile return ticket, making it super useful for the attractions you're about to see.

Panto Galore

Big laughs, a lot of shouting and maybe even a few tears make a great Panto. I'm glad to tell you that Blackpool is hosting 2 shows that will do this! (Oh yes they can!) Aladdin the Pantomime is a classic, being performed at Blackpool Pleasure Beach Globe Arena. The cast will have you through all sorts of emotions as you try to hold it together through this heartfelt Pantomime.

Snow White and the 7 Drawfs is also in town! Comedian Steve Royle and Vicky Entwistle play starring roles here and with the rest of the cast, it's one of those Panto's that are made for the kids, but the adults love it even more.

Snow White and the 7 Dwarfs is being performed at The Grand Theatre until 02 January. If you plan on going, enjoy the night for less using our festive return ticket. You can travel to and from the show floor for just £2.50 using our service 5, 6, 7, 9, 11, 14 or 17.

New Years Eve Fireworks

Finish 2021 with a bang, a celebratory fireworks display will be held on the Comedy carpet on Friday 31st. Starting at 5 pm, the display will wave goodbye to 2021 and set the scene for a fresh year. The fireworks will be finished in time for you to get home (or go out) and start the real celebrations, it also means you have plenty of time to get the younger ones tucked away.

Whilst we will be running a lesser service on New Year's Eve, buses will be running up to around 9 pm, Check our Christmas and new years timetables so you can travel with us on the night. If you are coming to the fireworks show, you can take advantage of our Festive return ticket. As parking is difficult along the promenade, travel to and from the display for just £2.50.

Christmas by the Sea

Blackpool's Tower Headland may be unrecognisable at the moment as it's been transformed into a Winter wonderland! A free glice skating rink (yes I spelt that right) is available for everyone at the headland so you can zoom, trail or stumble your way around the 40-metre rink, depending on your level of skill!

Whilst you're waiting for your turn at the rink, visit the log cabins for a smooth mulled wine, fresh cookie dough or exclusive gifts and take a bit of Blackpool home with you. Wrap up well on the Comedy Carpet as you may find yourself in the middle of a snowfall! It hardly snows in Blackpool so it's being brought to us! Now you can pretend you're in a Christmas Rom-com. A magical forest also awaits. Adventure through an array of pixilated trees and a light tunnel for a real ethereal experience. Finally, Light projections are being held on the Tower, just look east and you'll see them, you can watch several shows and laser light shows at the comfort of your local landmark.

Take advantage of our festive return ticket if you come here by using a town service and walking to the promenade. Or you can catch a tram or service 1 to the Tower.

Suprised Santa

Santa's (many) Grottos

Santa is a busy man, but he always makes time for those who want to see him. This Christmas he will be visiting several Grottos in the Town centre and nearby to give your child the chance to chat with him and find out if they are on the good or bad list. You can find Santa at any of his Grotto's at the Winter Gardens Wonderland, Houndshill Shopping Centre, Blackpool Pleasure Beach's Christmas grotto and Coral Island. You will have to book to see Santa as some of these Grottos so it's best to check in advance.

Many of these take place in town, remove the stress of parking and save some pennies with our £2.50 Festive Return ticket.

Blackpool Illuminations

Blackpool nights are not complete without the famous light show known as Blackpool Illuminations. A massive part of Blackpool since 1879 and still is, attracting thousands of visitors. Stretching from Little Bispham to Starr Gate the full display spans over 5 miles. This year the illuminations are running until 03 January, meaning you can take a walk, cycle or drive through the spectacle through Christmas and new year. Grab a bite to eat from a local promenade vendor, try your skill at the Promenade arcades along the way or take a ride on an illuminated historical tram through the lights, giving you the best seat in the house, to the best light parade on offer. There is no right or wrong way to enjoy the illuminations, but you'd be silly not to experience them once before the new year.

Our trams can be boarded anywhere along the promenade so you can hop on or off at any point of the lights. Alternatively, plan your trip with us.
