Illuminations Switch-On Weekend: Service Information

We are coming into to a very busy period for the resort with the Illuminations Switch-On event on Friday 31 August and Britney Spears performing live on Saturday 01 September. These events mean that the Promenade will be closed in the Tower area so we have to make some changes to our services to keep you moving.
Illuminations Switch-On and Britney Spears Live in Blackpool
Friday 31 August & Saturday 1 September
The illuminations are always a busy time of year for Blackpool and this year will be no different. These shows will affect our buses from 10:30am and our trams from 1pm as the services will not be able to access the Promenade area in front of the Tower.
The same closures will affect our services on both days.
Trams will run as normal until 13:00 each day. From 13:00, the tramway will be split into two sections due to the Promenade closing. A tram service will run from Starr Gate to Central Pier (South Section), and between North Pier and Fleetwood Ferry (North section).
We originally planned to run the South section of our tramway between Starr Gate and the Tower stop to get you as far as possible, but a change to the venue setup means we can only take customers as far as Central Pier. You will see trams travelling to the Tower stop but will not be able to board them, they are only using this section to turn around.
Trams in the south section between Starr Gate and Central Pier will run every 15 minutes. Trams in the north section between North Pier and Fleetwood Ferry will run roughly every 12 minutes. We’ll also be adding some extra journeys throughout the day as well to keep you moving.
If you want to travel between the two sections you can still buy a fare for your entire journey, but you'll need to change trams and walk between Central Pier and North Pier.
You can have a look at the tram timetable for the Switch-On weekend, just make sure you select the date on which you wish to travel.
Buses will run as normal until 10:30 each day. From 10:30 until 13:00, we won’t be able to use most of the bus stops in the town centre or the Promenade as the road will be closed in the Tower area.
From 13:00 buses will remain diverted, but service 5, 6, & 7 will run a split service meaning that any journeys beyond the town centre on these routes will require a change of bus.
This means that most bus services will start/finish at either Talbot Road, Dickson Road, Topping Street or New Bonny Street.
Some services will also run to a different timetable to keep you moving, so please check the routes & maps section before you travel.
From 13:00, Service 1 will run between Fleetwood and Blackpool town centre only.
Most buses will run to their usual frequency, but Services 5, 6 & 7 will be running a split service, meaning any travel across Blackpool Town Centre on these services will require a change of bus. Service 5 and 6 will run every 15 mins in the daytime and the 7 will run every 20 mins.
Service 5 to Victoria Hospital, Service 6 to Grange Park & Service 7 to Cleveleys will all terminate at New Bonny Street.
You'll need to catch these buses from Talbot Road, outside Wilko's for your onward journey.
Service 5 to Halfway House and Service 6 to Mereside will terminate on Topping Street, and Service 7 to Lytham will terminate on Talbot Road outside Wilko’s.
You'll need to catch these buses from New Bonny Street, opposite Coral Island for your onward journey.
We will run a free shuttle bus to help you get across the town centre if you are making an onward journey. Just ask your driver where to catch the shuttle bus from. You’ll still be able to buy single fares for your entire journey, so you won’t have to pay any extra.
