School 'X' Services from 11 January 2021 - Update
With restrictions in place meaning that schools, college and universities are currently closed to all students except those of key workers, from Monday 11 January we will not be operating our 'X School Services' except our X12.
The X12 service will continue to run in the morning and afternoon for students still travelling to Baines and Hodgson High schools.
Students who need to use our X services and are still attending classes will be able to use our regular services. Get in touch if we can help you to plan any of these journeys.
School 'X' Services from 02 November
Due to St Mary's High School, Lytham High School and St Aiden's High Schools not returning to class until a little later after the half-term holidays. Some of our school X services will not be running on Monday 2nd November but will return as students head back to school.
X2C (St Aiden's) service will return on Tuesday 03 November.
X3/5 (St Mary's) will return on Tuesday 03 November.
X11 (Lytham St Annes High School) service will return on Thursday 05 September.
All other X services will run as normal from Monday 02 November to make sure we can get students to class.
Coronavirus Guidance Update, Friday 16 October
The Government has announced that Blackpool and Lancashire will enter Tier 3 Restrictions from Saturday 17th October. This means that there are further restrictions in place, which you can read about HERE.
Our bus & tram services are unaffected by these restrictions and will continue to operate as normal with no planned changes to the regular services. Our X services will run slightly differently over the half term holidays so check below if anything changes on your journey.
The latest government guidance means that you should:
- Aim to reduce the number of journeys you make
- Plan ahead and avoid busy times and routes on public transport
- Walk or cycle where possible
You should also follow the Government’s safer travel advice and make sure you do not travel at all if you:
- are experiencing any coronavirus symptoms
- are self-isolating as a result of coronavirus symptoms or sharing a household or support bubble with somebody with symptoms
- are clinically extremely vulnerable and cannot shield during your journey
- have been advised by the NHS test and trace service that you should self-isolate
You can see further advice and guidance about travelling safely at gov.uk

September Secondary School and College Travel Information Hub
Blackpool Transport have been working with local authorities and using guidance from the government, DfT, DfE and PHE to create our plans for bus services from September onwards. Our aim is to ensure there is adequate provision of public transport services to carry children to and from school as safely as possible.
From September, most of our bus and tram services will be running just as frequently as they were before Covid-19.
In addition, we have identified a number of morning and afternoon bus journeys which require additional resources to safely carry the number of anticipated children travelling by public transport, so there will be some extra bus services for some schools & colleges.
These additional services will be identifiable by an ‘x’ alongside the service number on the front destination blind of the bus, for example ‘14X’ instead of ‘14’. These journeys are available for use by school children only, and we ask that all pupils are encouraged to travel on these additional services where available.
Please select your school/college from the list below to help you plan your journey.
Travel advice:
-
As per current guidance, school children over the age of 11 are encouraged to wear a face covering on public transport unless they are exempt. Please help us by encouraging children to do so.
-
Please check your bus timetable in advance, plan ahead, and allow extra time for your journey.
-
We are providing extra services where we can, but if possible, travel as early as you can and avoid using the latest possible departure in order to arrive on time.
-
Where possible you should sit with children/students from the same school, and/or in your 'bubble'.
-
Explore different ways of travelling to or from school, such as walking or cycling.
We're doing everything we can to provide extra capacity, but we cannot be responsible if a service is full and you will need to wait for the next service if this is the case.
