Disabled Access Day
Blackpool Transport are delighted to be taking part in Disabled Access Day 2019.
We're holding an Accessible Open Day at our Starr Gate Tram Depot on Saturday 16th March between 10am - 4pm
On the day, the event will:
- Provide an ‘all access’ opportunity for attendees to gain further understanding of Blackpool Transport’s commitment to ensuring transport is accessible for all.
- Importantly, the event will provide the opportunity to board both a tram and a bus in a safe, unpressured environment. This is a perfect opportunity for those who require additional support or assurance that they are able to travel by public transport.
- You’ll be able to ask our Disability Awareness trained members of staff any questions you may have about travelling by bus or tram.
- On the day you will also have the opportunity to see back of house areas and understand how a modern tram depot operates, as well as hourly trips through the tram wash! (Like a car wash, but for trams!).
There is no need to book to attend, simply turn up on the day. The main entrance to the tram depot is located a few metres from the Starr Gate tram stop.
You can find further venue accessibility information below.
Starr Gate Tram Depot (FY8 2SU). Attendees should present at the main entrance adjacent to the Starr Gate tram platform.
Plan to attend?
Those planning to attend can simply turn up on the day. You are however encouraged to contact [email protected] if you have any questions, concerns or particular requirements.
Venue Accessibility Information
The Starr Gate Tram Depot has level floor access throughout. All access areas on the day are on the ground floor with no requirement for any ramp access. Visitors should be mindful that in some areas there will be a requirement to navigate floor level tram tracks which present a very minor trip hazard. There is no induction loop available on site.
Car Parking & Arrival
Unfortunately, the venue is unable to offer any onsite parking facilities. There is however nearby on-street parking available in and around the surrounding areas. If arriving by car, there is a pelican crossing with tactile paving to navigate crossing the main road, followed by a 50m walk to the venue main entrance.
Accessible Toilet Facilities
The venue benefits from a fully accessible toilet. When facing the WC there is a folding support rail to the left which can be easily lowered. The accessible toilet also has a wash facility.
The accessible and public toilets are located next to the main tram stabling area, which is where the event will take place. All toilets are easily accessed via a ‘pull’ door which will be clearly signposted.
There are no fire evacuations planned on the day of the event. In the event of a fire evacuation, the muster point is at the main entrance gates.
