Our Company Charity - Blue Skies Hospital Fund

10 days ago Tue 14th May 2019

Every year we look to support a local charity by hosting events, volunteering, fundraising and more. Our company charity this year, as voted by our teams is the Blue Skies Hospitals Fund.

Blue Skies Hospitals Fund is the only charity dedicated to enhancing patient care for Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

The charity and their supporters help to:

  • Enhance the abilities of medical staff through education and training
  • Procure the latest medical equipment to diagnose patients rapidly and accurately
  • Develop medical research breakthroughs that will benefit future patients
  • Improve the environments where patients and visitors are cared for and where staff and volunteers are located

Why isn’t mainstream NHS funding enough?

Blue Skies say -

All healthcare services are funded from central government taxes, and our Trust tries to provide the highest level of service to our patients from the government funding we receive.

However, there are always ways the excellence of treatment and the quality of care we provide can be enhanced even further.

Donations made to our hospitals through Blue Skies Hospitals Fund, often in thanks for their care or treatment, complement the level of care offered using NHS funding, and enable us to offer continual developments in medical resources and go the extra mile in making the grey skies of ill health blue.

Within Blue Skies is also the Peace of Mind Dementia appeal which has been set up to provide enhanced care for people who are living with dementia. Blue Skies intend to create dementia corridors of familiar surroundings in our hospitals to encourage people with dementia to remember and discuss their earlier years in a comforting and safe environment. Funds will also be used to provide a secure and interactive garden for patients at Clifton Hospital, and to make getting around easier for patients with memory loss.

They also have the Heart of Gold Charitable Fund, this fund provides funding to enhance care at the Lancashire Cardiac Centre, based at Blackpool Victoria Hospital. This centre of excellence supports heart and lung patients from across the North West and South Cumbria, offering patients the very latest in diagnostics, specialist cardiology procedures and surgical techniques. The centre monitors the outcomes of its work closely and is consistently placed amongst the leading cardiac centres in the country.

Over the coming weeks and months we'll be looking to get involved with the charity and see how we can help to make a difference. If you'd like the opportunity to do so yourself, head over to their website for more information.
