6 Things to do Christmas 2022!

1 year ago Tue 29th Nov 2022

This festive season there’s something for everyone across our coastal gem, from panto to our very own Christmas tram tours. We wanted to showcase all the festive fun you can have before Santa arrives (and after!)

Everyone loves a panto… Oh no they don’t… Oh yes they do.

This holiday season Blackpool and beyond have a panto for everyone! Cinderella the Pantomime is an all-time favourite, being performed at Blackpool Pleasure Beach Globe Arena. The cast are sure to give you a laugh through this classic story. If the classics really are your favourite you could get a double dose of Cinderella, hopping on our service 11 and heading into Lytham for Lowther Pavilion’s showing of the classic rags to riches tale.

Sleeping Beauty is also in town! Blackpool legend Steve Royle and soapstar Hayley Tamaddon take the stage at The Grand Theatre for a tale full of magic, sure to keep audiences both young and old entertained.

Sleeping Beauty is being performed at The Grand Theatre until 1st January. You can travel to and from the magical event using services 5, 6, 7, 9, 11, 14 and 17.

If panto isn’t for you but you still want a Christmassy feel, Elf: The Musical will be showing at the Winter Gardens from 15th till 26th December.

Christmas By the Sea

It’s that time of year again where the Blackpool Tower Headland becomes our very own festive wonderland filled with something for all the family. The breath-taking festive village features everything you’d desire for your Christmas day out.

From log cabins with mulled wine, exclusive gifts, Bavarian sausages or even cheese boards there’s a something for everyone. You’ll need to wrap up warm on the Comedy Carpet as you may find yourself in the middle of a snow flurry or even on the FREE outdoor skating rink. If that’s not for you, take a ride on the festive-themed fairground rides or a stroll round Odyssey, a spectacular interactive display co-created by international designer Jack Irving in collaboration with a highly talented team of computer scientists from Lancaster University.

Mini Festive Tram Tours

Our heritage team had to get in on the festive fun!

From 18th November until 30th December, they’ll be running some Mini Festive Tours on our specially decorated festive tram along the coast, adding a little extra sparkle to your magical journey.

The unique festive tour is mini for a reason, your journey to Bispham and back will take around 30 minutes, perfect for when you’re around the seafront enjoying everything Christmas By the Sea has to offer!

Tickets can be booked online.

Santa’s Grotto’s Galore

Santa is a very busy man but will always make time for those who want to see him. This Christmas he’ll be visiting several Grottos around town to give your child the chance to chat with him and find out if they’re on the naughty or nice list. You can find Santa at any of his Grottos at Houndshill Shopping Centre, Blackpool Pleasure Beach’s Christmas Grotto Wonderland and Coral Island or you could even have breakfast with Santa at Blackpool Resorts. Make sure you check if you’ll need to book in advance!

If Santa isn’t the man you want to see, The Grinch will be making a special appearance at Affinity on Saturday 3rd & 17th December between 12 and 4pm!

Christmas Shopping

Online shopping is always risky when it comes to buying for friends and family. Located at the heart of Blackpool, Houndshill Shopping Centre boasts over 60 stores for you to enjoy, including high street retailers like JD, Superdrug and New look. If you're a busy bee or just prefer the quietness of late night shopping, Houndshill is open until 8pm every Thursday in December until the 22nd!

Most of our services are round the corner from Houndshill Shopping Centre, so no matter how much shopping you have, you won't be far away from your stop. Plan your journey to Houndshill with us.

Blackpool nights are not complete without the famous light show known as the Blackpool Illuminations. An integral part of Blackpool since 1879 and still is, attracting thousands of visitors. Stretching from Little Bispham to Starr Gate the full display spans over 5 miles. This year the illuminations are running until 2nd January, meaning you can take a walk, cycle or drive through the spectacle through Christmas and new year. There is no right or wrong way to enjoy the illuminations, but you'd be silly not to experience them once before the new year.

Our trams can be boarded anywhere along the promenade so you can hop on or off at any point of the lights.
