Service Changes from 6th November 2016

Plymouth Road Bridge Closure

We’d like to make our customers aware that Plymouth Road Bridge will fully close to all traffic early in November until Easter 2017. This closure will have a significant impact upon traffic congestion in the Bispham, Layton and Devonshire Road areas of Blackpool.

We’ve amended the timetables on all our services that will be effected by this bridge closure in an attempt to give each service some extra time to help cope with the delays that will no doubt happen as a result of these works.

The following services have therefore been amended during the bridge closure and they will come into effect from Sunday 6th November 2016.

Service changes due to Plymouth Road Bridge Closure

Service 6 – NEW!

This new service will replace Service 11 between Blackpool and Grange Park, operating every 15 minutes on the existing Service 11 route. This will allow us to provide extra journey time between Blackpool and Grange Park to combat likely congestion in the Layton area and near Plymouth Road roundabout. Service 6 will operate every 30 minutes in the evenings and on Sundays.

The main reason for this change is to minimise the effect of the Plymouth Road Bridge closure on the rest of the Service 11 route. Separating this section of the route should mean that Service 11 is not affected by the Plymouth Road bridge closure.

Service 7

This service will now operate every 20 minutes between Cleveleys and Lytham, Monday to Saturday. This will provide additional running time for each journey as we are expecting potential delays caused by increased traffic along Devonshire Road due to the Plymouth Road bridge closure.

Evening services remain unchanged, as do Sundays. Additional evening journeys have been added from Salcotes to Clifton Street (23:13 & 00:12).

Service 8

This service will replace Service 9A and operate the key journeys only between Cleveleys and Blackpool Victoria Hospital (with additional running time) for staff and visitors to coincide with some staff shift start and finish times on a daily basis.

Please note that Service 2C, 5, 10, 15/16 & 17 all service Blackpool Victoria Hospital and can be used as an alternative.

Please see new service 8 timetable online from week commencing 17th October 2016.

Service 9

This service will now operate every 12 minutes with all journeys operating between Blackpool and Cleveleys. The Sunday service will operate every 30 minutes.
We have added an extra 10 minutes of running time to each journey to try and keep a reliable service during this period of major disruption. We expect large traffic delays at some points on this route and we will do our best to keep services running on time.

Unfortunately, as a result of the Plymouth Road Bridge closure, Layton will not be served from 6th November. The service will be diverted via Warbreck Hill Road, Devonshire Road and back to normal route at Talbot Road.
Please note that Services 5, 6 and 14 all serve Layton and can be used as alternatives during this period.

Service 11

This service will now operate between Blackpool and Lytham only. This will ensure the service avoids the issues caused by the Plymouth Bridge closure and should mean the service remains reliable and punctual over this section of the route.

Service 14

This service will now operate every 12 minutes during the day, Monday to Saturday. Evening times will remain the same and Sunday services will operate every 20 minutes.

This has allowed us to add an extra 8 minutes of running time to each journey as Layton and Plymouth Road roundabout are likely to see increased congestion as a result of the Plymouth Road Bridge closure. We hope that this will help to keep services running on time.

Please note

It is hoped that Plymouth Road Bridge will partially re-open with two way working only from Easter 2017 then fully open by July 2017 for the main summer season. We will keep customers updated via our Website www.blackpooltransport.com, Twitter, Facebook and information on our buses.

We will have other major rail bridge schemes to deal with in the future including Devonshire Road and Squires Gate Lane and we will work closely with our customers, stakeholders and partners so that we do not have a repeat of the issues related to Plymouth Road in July and August of this year.

Other Service Changes

As the illuminations come to an end and we approach our much quieter winter operation the following changes will also come in to effect from Sunday 6th November 2016 until Easter 2017.

Service 1

This service will now operate every 30 minutes during the day and in the evenings, 7 days a week. The evening service will interwork with the trams to ensure a vehicle departs Starr Gate/Fleetwood every 15 minutes.

The first and last journeys from Starr Gate are the same as the current timetable Monday to Saturday with the Sunday service starting slightly later at 09:45.

The first journey from Fleetwood will be 15 minutes earlier than the current timetable but the last journey from Fleetwood to Starr Gate remains the same as the outgoing current timetable.

Service 2c

There will be 2 extra early morning journeys to Knott End Monday to Saturday (05:20 & 05:50 from Corporation Street arriving at Knott End at 06:23 & 06:53). There will also be an additional evening journey added to and from Knott End Monday to Saturday – 19:50 from Blackpool and 21:05 from Knott End.

Service 3 & 4

The November timetable is the same as the current outgoing timetable Sunday to Friday and the Saturday timetable will remain the same as the pre-illuminations Saturday timetable.

Service 5

The November timetable is the same as the current outgoing timetable Sunday to Friday and the Saturday timetable will remain the same as the pre-illuminations Saturday timetable.

Service 15 & 16

Both services will continue to run every 30 minutes Monday to Friday, during peak times. Off peak and at weekends these will run hourly.

Service 10 & 17

Service 10 and Service 17 are being withdrawn from the main entrance at Blackpool Victoria Hospital. The services will however continue to serve the outpatients stop.

This change will provide some additional running time to the service to improve punctuality.

Your feedback

As a result of customer feedback, some late evening journeys which previously terminated in places such as Fleetwood, Lytham, Cleveleys and other out of town areas will now operate in service back to Blackpool Town Centre. This is instead of the bus running out of service back to the depot, and provides some additional buses to Blackpool Town Centre in late evenings.

Updated timetables will be available online from Monday 17th October 2016 by clicking HERE, or in paper format from our Customer Centres on Market Street or Rigby Road from 25th October 2016.
